There seems to be a trend developing when it comes to wage gap among new immigrants coming to Canada. Since the early 1980’s, new immigrants are slipping far behind when it comes to their earning power compared to their Canadian counterparts.
Part of the problem could be that employers may be reluctant to believe foreign credentials and experiences. In the past majority of the immigrants came from English speaking or European countries.
During the past 30 years, immigration level has increased from Asia where English is not their native language.
What ever the reason, businesses will need to change their attitudes toward offering equal wages because majority of the new positions will be filled by new immigrants coming from developing countries.
